A Note From Jules Huldin, LMT & Esthetician

Honest confession: I show up wherever I live giving bodywork. I have gained priceless experience massaging in Telluride, Montrose, Dolores, Salt Lake City and now I'm back in Durango. And I've done so many massage modality trainings in 26 years...my education transcript looks like I'm either deeply committed to my craft or collecting degrees and certifications like Colorado festival wristbands. It's the first one. Mostly.

But here's what all of it actually gave me: the ability to read what's happening in your body instead of just following some protocol written for a body that isn't yours.

That means I can tell the difference between:

Tension that needs to release and tension that's protecting something.

(Those are not the same thing. Treating them the same way can actually set you back.)

"I sit at a desk all day" shoulders and "I decided to move my own furniture" shoulders.

(Your body tells me things my hands listen to.)

Pain that responds to pressure and pain that needs a completely different approach.

That kind of discernment doesn't come from a textbook.

It comes from working on thousands of real bodies, over 26 years,

paying attention every single time.

Here's the one thing I absolutely cannot do:

I CAN feel what your tissue is doing.

I genuinely CANNOT feel how you feel it.

That part is yours, and no amount of training will make me psychic.

The more you tell me - what's been nagging, what helps, what makes it worse, what you did last weekend that seemed fine at the time - the better the work gets.

Otherwise I'm just guessing.

And if I were that clairvoyant, I'd be doing readings on a sailboat in the Caribbean, not working out the knot in your left trap that you've apparently learned to live with.

One more thing, because your skin also has to survive here.

High altitude.

Dry heat.
